Natalie Westerbarkey is Director in the Investor Client Executive Team for Citigroup’s Securities and Fund Services Business based in London.
She joined Citi in April 2006 and facilitates the exchange with investment banking clients and asset managers including, hedge funds, private equity firms and mutual fund managers on global regulatory reforms including the US (Dodd-Frank/FATCA), the EU (OTC derivatives central clearing, UCITS, AIFMD, MiFID etc) and Asia (fund passport, HK/Chinese developments). As part of her knowledge role she also leads investor client initiatives on socially responsible investing (SRI) initiatives including environmental, social and governance (ESG) and research on UCITS global fund distribution trends including into Asia and Latin America. Natalie also manages the teams Web 2.0 collaboration initiatives.
In her prior role of market strategy within the SFS business Natalie promoted changes in financial services legislation and industry across Europe to increase efficiency, reduce risks, ensure sound competition and investor protection. Key engagements included the European Commission’s UCITS, AIFMD Directive for hedge funds/private equity firms, the European Central Bank’s TARGET2-Securities project and new laws for custodians/depositaries, Central Counterparties (CCPs) and Central Securities Depositories (CSDs). In that capacity she actively participated for many years in numerous global, European and UK public and private sector financial services committees such as the European Commission’s Monitoring Group, the European Banking Federation, the British Bankers’ Association, the Association of Global Custodians, EUROFI and AFME.
Natalie qualified as a judge under German jurisdiction, is licensed as a lawyer in Germany and the UK and has previously worked at Clifford Chance LLP in London, in private practice in Germany, and in public sector roles in Belgium and Mexico. She holds a Master of Law Degree (LLM) in International Investment, Banking, and Trade Law from Oxford Brookes University with distinction (award as best in class). She completed an Executive MBA at Cass Business School in London in 2011 with a focus on asset management, finance and Asia entry strategies for asset managers including (UCITS) fund distribution.
Natalie was born in Peru and has lived and worked in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico, Madrid, Belgium, Germany and the UK.
