Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union—barring a last-minute change of heart from the British parliament—will start on March 29, 2019. It’s been a contentious topic since the lead-up to the referendum in June 2016 and many disagreements remain within government about what form Brexit should take. While some advocate for a soft Brexit, whereby the UK retains access to the EU’s single market in exchange for concessions regarding freedom of movement, there are others that believe a hard Brexit—where no such deal is reached—is a likelier outcome.
