Introducing DerivSource Professional, a new section featuring career insight, peer profiles and educational topic briefs for our dedicated OTC operations community
My goal when launching DerivSource.com over four years ago was simple – to offer dedicated information source for OTC derivatives operational and tech professionals so they can keep up with market changes, trends and better educate themselves. While this goal remains, the information needs of our growing community have multiplied and we’ve hosted more webinars, podcasts and commentary articles to support this. But lately, I’ve been thinking more about the individuals behind the ISP numbers and what his/her needs are from a career and personal development standpoint.
Because of the sheer number of CVs/resumes I get, I can clearly see that operational professionals, at all levels, would benefit from information and peer insight focused more on career and professional development. In line with professional development, I can also see that readers are eager to expand their knowledge beyond their immediate discipline because operational functions are evolving rapidly and overlapping.
To support our readers on a more individual and professional basis, we have launched ‘DerivSource Professional’, a new dedicated section providing articles on career advice and advancements, peer profiles and educational topic briefs to help our community help themselves.
The job market remains shakey and jobs are still being made redundant so we are focusing on career articles that aim to offer advice from experts and peers on career development specific to the operational market. And we’ll be covering anything from salary surveys to moving abroad. In the debut slot, we spoke to DerivSource anonymously about why he decided to take the leap and move one bank to another when many middle and back-office professionals are wary of changing companies in today’s markets.
DerivSource Professional also includes profiles of industry leaders who will speak candidly about the challenges they have faced and offer an in-depth look into different career journeys and roles. We kicked off this feature with a look at Susan Ervin, of Davis Polk who has worked in both private and public law (CFTC) so can draw on the experiences gained in both roles to navigate through the regulatory reform taking place today.
Finally, we also have an educational feature to offer quick insight into new terms or concepts. Let’s face it, we don’t always have the time to know the ins and outs of how OIS discounting came to be. So, this new educational section will offer quick insight into such terms and topics that may be unknown to DerivSource members. As part of the plan to offer more educational resources, we are also featured key research and whitepapers in the new ‘Research’ section to alert readers to what they should be adding to their weekend reading lists. Yes, we are telling you what to read!
Upcoming DerivSource Professional features will consider best practices for using social media, advice on interviewing from a senior recruiter at a top bank, profiles of leading CCP executive and an educational topic brief on Living Wills.
We are just getting started with DerivSource Professional so if you would like us to cover a specific question or topic (salary survey anyone?), then please email me directly Julia@derivsource.com. Be sure to follow us on twitter @derivsource to keep up with all of our new daily content.
