The International Swaps and Derivatives Association, Inc. (ISDA) today announced that George Handjinicolaou, ISDA’s deputy chief executive officer and Regional Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, has been appointed to the role of vice chairman of the Hellenic Capital Markets Commission (HCMC), the national capital markets industry regulator for Greece and the Hellenic region.
“On behalf of the ISDA Board, I would like to thank George for his excellent work for ISDA and its membership during his time at the organization,” said Eraj Shirvani, ISDA chairman and head of Fixed Income EMEA at Credit Suisse. “In particular, we would like to recognize his success in coordinating and advancing industry efforts to improve operational and trading infrastructure measures, where he has been a key force in bringing together participants across the industry and in our dialogue with the regulatory community.”
“I extend my thanks to George for his tremendous support and achievements over the past two years,” said Robert Pickel, executive director and chief executive officer, ISDA. “George has been a great asset to ISDA and to me personally. Thanks to the work George has undertaken during his time here, he leaves ISDA in a stronger position to better address the challenges of the current financial industry landscape. I wish him similar successes in his new role.”
ISDA has commenced the process of recruiting a replacement for Handjinicolaou and will announce this appointment in due course. In the interim Handjinicolaou will work on the transition of his responsibilities with senior members of the ISDA staff.
Handjinicolaou has served as ISDA’s primary representative in EMEA since July 2007. Over the course of his 25-year career, Handjinicolaou has held senior management positions in the derivatives and fixed income markets in Europe and the US. In his new role he will report to HCMC chairman, Anastasios Gabrielides.
